Come and join us at the Hawk and Owl Trust’s Shapwick Moor reserve (avalonmarshes.org/explore/nature-reserves/shapwick-moor), on the beautiful Somerset Levels, on August 12th, and give your #My200BirdYear list a big boost.
Members of the Bird Watching team will join the Trust’s Alex Learmont to explore the reserve, which boasts raptors such as Hobby, Barn Owl, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard, plus the likes of Snipe, Lapwing, Kingfisher, Grey Heron, Reed Bunting and a range of warblers.
The surrounding area has also become renowned for its Cattle Egrets and Great White Egrets, Marsh Harriers, and Cranes have also bred locally, so there’ll be every chance of turning up something unexpected but utterly memorable.
The team from Clifton Cameras will also be present, along with Zeiss ambassador Toby Carter, so you’ll get the chance to see and test new products such as the SFL 8x40 binoculars, which we recently reviewed, and loved.
We’ll be meeting at 8.30pm for a 9am start, with a repeat from 1pm if there’s demand.
Please note there is no roadside parking, but the main car-park can take around 30 vehicles, while further parking is available at the nearby Avalon Marshes Centre (avalonmarshes.org). There are no facilities on site, but again everything is available at the nearby Avalon Marshes Centre.
Trackways on site are not tarmac, so access can be limited for wheelchair users, depending on the weather.
